Lots of stuff going on in May. School is winding down, baseball cards are flying through the mail, and I am busy as ever typing away about obscure stories inside some well known baseball releases.
Highlights for the Month
- New Cards! I picked up a few more '52 Topps commons this month, crossing Ted Beard, Larry Jansen, and semi-high number Cliff Fannin off the checklist. I also found a used bookstore selling a 1979 Sport Americana Price Guide - the first annual Beckett guidebook - and added it to my bookshelf. Building the '52 set was probably easier when the Mantle card changed hands for...checks recently acquired book...$500.
- Speaking of Beckett...Dr. Jim Beckett was nice enough to sign the back of one of my wallet cards.
- Site Stability: The tech side of CardBoredom has been having quite a time. My site has gone offline multiple times this month and had recurring issues with internal edits being blocked by aggressive security systems. Hopefully things improve soon.
- Card Show: Decided to attend a local hotel card show today. I won't make that mistake again.
- Fun: You may have realized I am a bit of a metal head after it was revealed that GWAR killed my previous wallet card. Someone was good enough to record my most recent bit of live music...
Questions
Assuming my site is working properly, you can check on some of the questions I tackled in May:
- When did graduating high school become culturally seen as "normal?"
- Who is the most average guy in the '52 Topps checklist?
- Are 1948-49 Leaf baseball cards actually a uniquely 1949 issue?
I have a few more posts ready to go on '49 Leaf, including the results of research into an area that I have yet to see explored. I'll get those published once work obligations slow down and I can get CardBoredom to consistently act right for visitors.
